Peter Merrington, GCLP 2017
Peter Merrington was a participant in the 2017 edition of the Global Cultural Leadership Programme.
Peter Merrington is a postdoctoral research associate on a three-year research project examining the audience for non-mainstream film in English regions, based in the department of sociology at the University of Glasgow. Previously, Peter served as the Assistant Director of AV Festival, a contemporary art, film and music festival in Newcastle, UK. With a background in visual art and cultural geography, he has worked on the production of film festivals, biennials and international events including with Liverpool Biennial and the British Council. In 2016, he received a Ph.D. in fine art from Newcastle University, and his research examined the relationship between contemporary art, festival and place.
“Learning from Athens with the GCLP was a privilege, it was a rare opportunity to question the meaning and practice of international cultural relations from the inside, raising as many questions as it answered. The programme reinforced the importance of international working, dialogue and exchange that seeks to remake and challenge cultural worlds rather than affirm and tighten existing boundaries.”
In order to introduce themselves and their organizations, the participants prepared a poster.
