Sarmistha Chatterjee, GCLP 2017
Sarmistha Chatterjee was a participant in the 2017 edition of the Global Cultural Leadership Programme.
Sarmistha, a conservation architect, is associated with Heritage Trusts, NGOs and various Government entities to conserve the diverse cultural heritage of India. She has delivered diverse projects like conservation & management strategies for historic sites, conservation management plans, urban design interventions and streetscaping for Ministry of Culture and Municipal Corporations in India. Sarmistha was also affiliated with the offices of Hon’ble President of India and Parliament House as a Lead Heritage Expert. Presently, she is a design faculty and cultural studies researcher with Manipal School of Planning and Architecture. Her research primarily focuses about people and space in historic cores; where she raises concerns related to ‘polity of heritage’ and ‘sense and sensibilities of urban development in historic cores’. Her paper, “Rights to the City-Gender and Urban Development” received acclamation for conceptualizing ways to integrate growing needs of an urban centre within a heritage city.
