Cultural policies in cities of the ‘global South’
The International Journal of Cultural Policy‘s last edition looks at cultural policies in cities of the ‘global South’.
The diverse articles of this special issue explores how cities outside Europe and North America try to reinvent and rescale themselves using culture. They suggest that the fabric of urban cultural policy is embedded in multi-scalar power dynamics.
This study questionned the diffusion of hegemonic cultural policy models through the world, which leads to logics of exclusion, gentrification, and has been met with resistance in the ‘global South’. It also emphisizes the need to rethink cultural policy mobility from cities of the Southern emisphere.
