Jean Monnet Programme
The Jean Monnet programme aims to promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union (EU) studies. It also supports the dialogue between academics and policy-makers, in particular with the aim of enhancing governance of EU policies.
EU studies encompass the study of Europe in its entirety with particular emphasis on the European integration process in both its internal and external aspects. The discipline also covers the role of the EU in a globalised world and in promoting an active European citizenship and dialogue between people and cultures.
The Jean Monnet programme is part of Erasmus+ and funded by the EU (DG EAC).
Some Jean Monnet projects are specifically targeting the study of EU external cultural relations, such as:
Project CIRCEA – Culture in International Relations: Constructing European External Action is a 3-year EU-funded project implemented by the University of Siena from 2019-2023. The main objective of the CIRCEA project is to strengthen the understanding of the role of the cultural dimensions of the EU’s external action.
