Connecting Europe Facility

The Connecting Europe Facility programme (2021-2027) supports investment in Europe’s transport, energy and digital infrastructure networks. It will support the twin green and digital transition, by contributing to the ambitious targets for the European Green Deal and the Digital Decade.

Budget: €33.7 billion

Europeana, the EU online platform for cultural heritage, is co-funded by this scheme.

Europeana is Europe’s digital platform for cultural heritage. Europeana empowers cultural heritage institutions to share their collections with the world. Millions of cultural heritage items from around 4,000 institutions across Europe are available online via Europeana Collections.

The Europeana professional website provides news, info and documentation so that cultural heritage, academic research, technology professionals and creatives can get involved, share their data or use Europeana’s collections.

European has an external dimension which concerns the following:

  • Collaboration with various countries, such as India (e.g. with the National Digital Library of India) and Serbia (e.g. providing access to content)
  • Collaboration with China (e.g. Pagode project)
  • Rights Statements: A major achievement by the Europeana project was to gather other international aggregators (from the USA, Canada, Australia and India), and create a consortium providing standardised interoperable rights and re-use information
