01-02/03/2018 EU Ministers of Culture meeting in Sofia

“The Role of Culture in International Relations: The Road Forward” is the theme of the Ministers of Culture form the Europe and Asia meeting, happening from 1 to 2 March 2018, to discuss how culture contributes to strengthening a country’s external relations, how to develop a more open approach to international cultural relations based on reciprocity, and what measures could be taken at national level to foster collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure synergies in international cultural relations. This two days meeting is hold in Sofia, under the presidency of Bulgaria to the council of the European Union. It was introduced by an informal meeting on 28 February 2018 with the EU Ministers of Culture, Commissioner Tibor Navracsics and MEP Petra Krammervert. With the motto “Culture – inclusive value of the EU”, the informal meeting stressed several topics, among which: the strengthening of the feeling of belonging to Europe through culture; and taking into account the interests and the role of young European citizens by searching for ways to mobilise their energy and potential in the preservation and development of the European values through culture. The delegates shared their countries’ experience in the implementation of various projects aimed at integrating young people through cultural policies.
