#WIKI4WOMEN World Contributory Movement

Save the date! On Thursday 8 March 2018, it will be the Celebration of International Women’s Day. For this occasion, the UNESCO headquarters in Paris will host around 150 contributors, among whom UNESCO’s staff, members of Permanent Delegations, partners, representatives of civil society, students, and the general public to encourage the Wikipedia contributions for women’s articles. Indeed, only 17% of profiles on Wikipedia are of women… It is time to bridge the gender gap in the digital space! UNESCO considers gender equality as a fundamental human right, a building block for social justice and an economic necessity. With the #WIKI4WOMEN initiative, UNESCO and its partners calls everyone to take few minutes of their time to create, enrich or translate, in as many languages as possible, Wikipedia portraits of women committed in the fields of education, science, culture, social and human sciences, or communication and information. If you want to be part of #WIKI4WOMEN and make a difference in the gender gap, you can create a Wikipedia account and start working on a women portrait you find interesting and worth sharing! Do not forget to fill the participation certificate here and get relevant updates about the campaign. For implementing this campaign, UNESCO has been powered by Wikimedia Foundation, with the support of Canada, the European Union, the Cultural Diplomacy Platform, Iceland, Sweden, the Chanel Foundation and the French National Audiovisual Institute.
