Published in the International Journal of Cultural Policy, this paper by Neil Collins and Kristina Bekenova investigates the 9 European diasporas in Kazakhstan (Bulgarian, German, Hungarian, Polish, Lithuanian, Estonian, Romanian, Greek and Finn) in the context of European cultural diplomacy to:
- Analyse their role and that of various specialised ethnic-cultural agencies in EU member states’ cultural diplomacy
- determine how the promotion of culture via diasporas can assist the EU member states in its cultural diplomacy; and
- evaluate the approaches of the European states to their diasporas in creating interstate understanding and exchanging values.
