17-23/10/2017 Atelier for Young Festival and Cultural Managers, Shanghai
A unique platform for international cultural exchange.
In the framework of the EU-China High Level People to People Dialogue between the European Commission and the People’s Republic of China, the Cultural Diplomacy Platform supports the first Atelier for Young Festival and Cultural Managers in China, developed by The Festival Academy and the China Shanghai International Arts Festival. This programme, which aims to deepen Asia-Europe relations through international cultural exchange, will take place on 17-23 October 2017 in Shanghai, China. This programme is also supported by the Chinese Ministry of Culture.
The Atelier for Young Festival and Cultural Managers is a 7-day training programme addressing early career artistic directors or those who have the ambition to get involved into programming festivals or cultural venues. 40 participants will be selected for the Atelier during which they will discuss various aspects of festival and cultural management with up to ten experts from pioneering festivals and outstanding art centres and institutes from all over the world.

More on the context.
Both the EU and China share a strong conviction of the importance of culture in external relations. People-to-people contacts are playing an increasingly prominent role in EU-China relations in the field of culture, as well as in education, multilingualism, youth and gender equality. To include regular policy dialogue at government level, as well as joint projects and events, the EU-China High Level People-to-People Dialogue (HPPD) was launched in 2012. Through the EU-China HPPD, more and more unique and innovative co-operations are being developed between East and West, and the first Atelier for Young Festival and Cultural Managers is precisely an example of a concrete project fostering this people-to-people dialogue in this framework.
