Cultural Diplomacy between Eastern & Western Europe, 1945-today

On 24-25 February 2017, in the framework of the European project “Trauma & Revival”, the University of Jyväskylä holds a conference entitled “East-West Cultural Relations: Interplay of Arts and Cultural Diplomacy 1945-2017”, which seeks to strengthen the research of cultural exchanges across national borders.

This conference will explore and raise awareness of the state of cultural relations and diplomacy between Eastern and Western Europe. It aims to reflect on the East-West cultural connections from the Second World War to today, with a focus on artistic movements and exchanges between (and possibly within) the East and West. The project “Trauma & Revival” – co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the EU – showcases and reflects on the East-West cultural connections since the Second World War, by bringing together artworks and artists from both the former Soviet Union, East and Western Europe, from the past and present. It began in June 2016 and will run until the end of 2018.
